AI Film News | April 25th, 2024

Here is a breakdown of the AI Film News from the video.

Midjourney's Stylizer - Midjourney just rolled out a style randomizer feature that's pretty interesting. Honestly, it doesn't seem like the most helpful tool for a workflow, but it could be useful in the exploratory creative process. For instance, if you hit a creative block, this feature could help you explore some different visual options.

Adobe Firefly 3 - Adobe released their new Firefly model. Although Midjourney remains our favorite, the new model is significantly better than previous ones.

Photoshop Gets *Another* Upgrade - Photoshop just dropped some fresh updates. Now, you can generate images using the new Firefly 3 model, right inside Photoshop. You also have the ability to use reference images when generating. There are a few other updates, but these are our favorites.

Stable Diffusion 3 - Stability AI launched the API for Stable Diffusion 3, and it's faster and more crisp than ever. They claim that 'this model is equal to or outperforms state-of-the-art text-to-image generation systems such as DALL-E 3 and Midjourney v6 in typography and prompt adherence, based on human preference evaluations.' We put that to the test in our webshow last week, and we were honestly pleasantly surprised.

Infinite Reality's 4D Capture - Check out this next-level 4D volumetric capture tech that's basically setting us up for some serious advancements in virtual reality and film. This could greatly enhance the production process, making it even easier and more cost effective by not having to shoot thousands of takes and different angles.

Another Image Generator Debacle - Turns out, Meta's AI image generator has been a bit of a wild child, generating explicit content that's stirred up some controversy. This seems to be happening to everybody, which tool is next?

AI Takes Over Hollywood - Hollywood is getting familiar with having AI tools in their pipelines, from generating movie posters for A24's recent release Civil War, to enhancing images in films like Netflix's "What Jennifer Did". We are beginning to see this used more and more in multiple steps of the filmmaking process.

The First AI Rom-Com - TCL has gone all in with AI and is releasing the first ever AI Rom-Com. We should do a watch party at one of our AI Filmmaking meet ups!

Style City - This research paper is developing a tool that creates Large-Scale 3D Urban Scenes Stylization. Basically, you can create a 3D render of a city and control what time of day it is. This will help speed up the process in production when creating establishing or drone shots. Soon we will not be held up by time of day or weather conditions.

IN2IN - For a decent amount of time the question has been, 'how do I create AI scenes with multiple people in them?' This research paper is working to help that problem and speed up the process. IN2IN is a tool that seems similar to Move AI, but it is working to generate human interactions, as opposed to one person's movements. This is obviously going to be significantly helpful for multi-character scenes.

Intrinsic Anything - This research paper allows you to take the light and shadows off of a photo. This will greatly help compositing efforts, because you need a flat deshaded plate to change the lighting of 3D objects.

Hollywood is Cloning Actors - The mega-huge talent agency, CAA is beginning to clone A-List actors. This will help actors have the ability to star in more films and avoid tedious reshoots and ADR. So, if you thought you have seen too many films starring The Rock, then just wait.

Synthesia's AI Avatars - Speaking of AI actors, shortly following HeyGen's announcement of their new avatars, Synthesia does the same thing. These avatars are becoming more emotive than we ever thought possible.

Drake's AI Diss Track - Drake's ventured into AI music with a diss track. To no surprise, he has since deleted the tweet. It's interesting to see so many AI tools becoming more mainstream.

Paul Trillo's Breakdown - Our friend Paul Trillo released a breakdown of one of his recent films. His workflow used stable diffusion as well as some traditional compositing techniques. It is so interesting to see the creative process for successful filmmakers.

AI on the Lot - If you are in LA on May 16th, join leading experts from Dell, NVIDIA, OpenAI, Adobe and prominent movie studios at AI on the Lot. Get your tickets now, and use the code 'CURIOUS' for 20% off!

Pika Lab's Update - Pika labs just released their 'Style' feature. Essentially you can prompt 'Dog in an anime style' and that's what it will give you. We are excited to begin experimenting with this new feature.

SORA Killer? - A Chinese based AI firm recently launched a new text to video model that is said to be just as good as SORA. It's hard to tell from the generations, but it is definitely worth utilizing this new generator.

This SORA Short Film Used Rotoscoping - Speaking of SORA, in a recent interview we found out the short film 'Air Head' Shy Kids revealed they used some rotoscoping techniques to make up for SORA's inconsistencies.
