In this article, I will share a large list of the most notable AI Filmmaking Tools available.

AI tools are becoming more and more popular among filmmakers. There are so many different tool options that it is hard to know (or remember) what is out there.

In this article, I will share some of the top AI filmmaking tools available. This list is probably not exhaustive, but it may be one of the most in-depth lists available.

The Best AI Filmmaking Tools for Filmmakers

Below is a list of the best AI Filmmaking tools for filmmakers. We have focused more on cloud-based, user-friendly tools as opposed to code-based tools. These tools are in no specific order.

1. Runway

Runway could easily be a one-stop shop for many filmmakers. From image-to-video, AI background removers, to text-to-voice generators, Runway’s list of AI tools is extensive.

2. PikaLabs

PikaLabs offers a plethora of AI filmmaking tools geared toward refining your scenes. From lipsync to video generation, Pika can be a great addition to your workflow.

3. Pixverse (Free)

Pixverse is one of our favorite free options because it generates video in 4K! This is a wonderful choice if you are looking for an affordable AI filmmaking tool that produces high-quality scenes.

4. Haiper (Free)

Haiper is our favorite free AI video generation option. This is a wonderful addition to your workflow.

5. Moonvalley (Free)

Moonvalley is another free text-to-video model. The quality of its output is not consistent enough for us to use in our pipeline, but it could be a good option depending on your project needs.

6. Morph Studio (Free)

Morph Studio is an AI tool that often goes unnoticed. They offer a plethora of tools to help you create your ideal scene.

7. SORA

You have most likely seen that SORA outputs videos like no other tool we have encountered. However, there is concern about when (or if) the general public will gain access to it.

8. Veo (From Google)

Google recently launched its own AI video generator, and the examples are spectacular. Similar to SORA, there is no clear date for public access.

9. Stable Video Diffusion (Free)

Stable Video Diffusion can generate phenomenal scenes, but it is not as user-friendly as some other AI video generators available.

10. Leonardo

We are big fans of the team at Leonardo. Their AI tools are exceptional, covering image generation, video generation, character consistency, and more. Leonardo is an AI filmmaking tool you need to learn.

11. Krea

Krea offers multiple tools and was one of the first to feature real-time image generation.

12. Kaiber

Kaiber is working to enhance workflows for creatives using generative audio and video tools.

13. Letz.AI

We first heard about Letz.AI from our good friend Julie W. Design. We love all of the work Julie has created using this image generator.

14. Midjourney

Midjourney is undoubtedly the best AI image generator on the market. We are very excited for their video generator, which is hopefully coming soon.

15. Ideogram

Ideogram is an AI tool geared toward helping brands use generative AI to create incredible marketing content. It was one of the first tools to excel in typography.

16. DALL-E

DALL-E is OpenAI’s image generator. Though the output isn’t always the best compared to other image generators, the benefit of having ChatGPT and DALL-E in the same place is significant for filmmakers.

17. Firefly

Adobe is regularly upgrading it's image generator, Firefly. image generator, Firefly. This tool shines through its integration with Photoshop’s generative fill feature.

18. Stable Diffusion

Stability AI’s image generator produces spectacular images that can compete with the best. It also does well with typography, even better than Midjourney.

19. Imagen 3 (By Google)

Imagen 3 is an AI image generator that Google plans to release soon. The examples we have seen are amazing, and we are eager to see the output once it is available.

20. Polycam

Polycam scans environments on your phone and can make VFX significantly easier than traditional pipelines.

21. LTX Studio

LTX Studio is currently in Beta, allowing you to generate 30-second short films from a single prompt.

22. Simulon

Simulon, another tool currently in Beta, will no doubt change the film industry. You can add 3D assets into your scanned environment, and Simulon can composite them to look incredibly realistic.

23. Elevenlabs

Elevenlabs offers multiple AI audio tools, including AI SFX and AI voice generators. Elevenlabs is definitely in our top 10 favorite AI filmmaking tools of all time.

24. Auphonic

Auphonic does a phenomenal job at cleaning up audio. Whether it is an interview, a short film, or even a podcast, Auphonic should definitely be in your arsenal.

25. Adobe Enhance

Adobe’s AI audio enhancer is another tool we have been using regularly and continue to be amazed by. This tool has worked wonders for our audio.

26. Adobe’s AI Rotoscoping (in AE 2024)

If you need a more intricate background remover for your footage, you will definitely want to learn to utilize Adobe After Effects’ AI Rotoscoping tool.

27. Adobe Photoshop (Generative Fill)

Adobe Photoshop’s Generative Fill is one of the greatest use cases of Adobe’s AI image generator, Firefly. Honestly, there is no competition. Generative Fill is a spectacular AI film tool for filmmakers.

28. Canva (Magic Brush)

Canva offers a ‘Magic Brush’ feature that works similarly to Adobe’s Generative Fill. It is not as good, but it could be a great alternative for current Canva users who are short on time.

29. Akool

Akool offers a handful of different AI filmmaking tools, but our favorite is their AI face-swap tool.

30. Topaz Labs

Topaz Labs offers multiple tools geared toward helping you get the best quality possible out of your content. We love Gigapixel, but Topaz Video AI is definitely one of our favorite AI film tools of all time.

Though some things may change since being acquired by Freepik, Magnific’s ability to enhance an image and refine details is unparalleled.

32. FreePik

Freepik is an image generation tool that offers various features, one of them being an AI image upscale feature thanks to their acquisition of Magnific.

33. BigJPG (Free)

If you are looking for an image-upscale tool that doesn’t break the bank, BigJPG is a wonderful option.

34. LeiaPix

LeiaPix is our go-to tool for generating depth maps for our AI-generated images. They also offer tools that will allow you to make your film 3D in seconds.

35. Move AI

Move AI makes motion capture easy by giving everyone the ability to have epic VFX in their films without needing millions of dollars and a motion capture suit.

36. Mootion

Mootion allows you to generate characters from a prompt. From there, you can take the movement and input it into a tool like Move AI to add motion to your characters.

37. Heygen

Heygen is one of the leading names in AI avatars. Our favorite tool from them is their video dubbing and translation tool.

38. Synthesia

Synthesia is another big name in AI avatars. Their avatars are so realistic that they look like people pretending to be avatars.

39. Chat GPT-4

Chat GPT-4 is our favorite AI filmmaking tool for scriptwriting and creative collaboration.

40. Claude 3

Claude 3 does a phenomenal job generating concepts and helping give filmmakers creative inspiration.

41. Nolan AI

Nolan AI is specifically created for writing and collaborating on scripts. One thing it misses is the collaborative aspect offered by other similar tools.

42. Google Gemini

Google Gemini is another phenomenal LLM to utilize as a creative partner. One of its main pitfalls is that it is not as customizable as OpenAI’s Chat GPT.

43. Meta Llama 3

At the time of writing this article, Llama 3 is relatively new compared to others. It appears to be a solid option for those looking for an alternative to Chat GPT.

44. Suno

Suno is one of the original AI music generation tools and continues to be one of the best on the market.

45. Udio

Udio seemed to appear out of nowhere. They are putting continual effort into the tool with the goal of developing it to be the greatest model available, and they are very close.

46. Stable Audio

Stable Audio offers a solid and reliable tool for audio generation. Though it is not our favorite, it offers consistent quality that would fit well in many AI filmmaking workflows.

47. Soundful

Soundful offers a user interface that is extremely easy to use, but their output is more inconsistent than we prefer.

48. Google MusicML

Google’s music generation tool is not impressive, but it could definitely be beneficial for many filmmakers.

49. Viggle

Viggle is most known for their character replacement tool. Even though it does not typically look realistic, the motion tracking and ability to switch out characters demonstrate how advanced today’s AI tools are.

50. SyncLabs

SyncLabs utilizes the Wav2Lip API to offer some of the best lipsync generations possible.

51. Lalamu

As another notable lipsync tool, Lalamu excels at generating lipsync scenes for animated characters.

52. LensGo

LensGo is a video-style transfer tool adored by many AI filmmakers.

53. D-ID

D-ID is a lipsync tool that animates images. This was one of the first tools we began utilizing in our AI filmmaking toolkit.

54. WonderStudio

WonderStudio offers a plethora of mind-blowing VFX using AI tools. From video inpainting to character replacement, WonderStudio seems to have it all.

55. Cuebric

Cuebric offers a handful of tools geared toward making VFX on your film easier than ever. From generating depth maps to image generation, Cuebric is set to help you create beautiful VFX for your film.

56. Blockade Labs

Blockade Labs allows you to generate your virtual environment through something as simple as a text prompt.

57. ChatGPT

Last but not least is Chat GPT-4o. With this being a brand new tool, it is hard to know all of the ways in which it will benefit filmmakers, but we cannot wait to see.

58. Luma Dream Machine

Luma Dream Machine allows you to upload an image and create video with impressive movement. It is one of the best tools on the market for creating AI video.
