AI Film News | June 4th, 2024

Here is a breakdown of the AI Film News from the video.

Pixverse Magic Brush - Pixverse just released their new ‘Magic Brush’ feature last week. This tool is similar to Runway's ‘Motion Brush’ but actually gives you greater ability to customize the movement in your scene. Pixverse was kind enough to allow us to give away free annual memberships to 3 people in our audience. Head over to the web show and comment on your most recent AI film that you created for a chance to win!

OpenAI Dissolves AI Safety Team - OpenAI has dissolved its AI safety team as part of a strategic realignment, focusing resources on their super-alignment initiative. Speaking of the safety team, remember when Altman was fired last year? Well, some of those board members who fired him are still calling for him to step down.

Meta's Product Advisory Council - Six months ago, Mark Zuckerberg dissolved Meta's ‘Responsible AI Division.’ Recently, Meta created a ‘Product Advisory Council’ that will give the team ‘insights and recommendations on technological advancements, innovation, and strategic growth opportunities.’

Google AI Fiasco - Recently, it h as seemed as though Google has been leading the charge when it comes to AI. Maybe a little behind the curve, but nothing crazy. Well, this ex-Google employee has said that most of Google's recent developments are driven by panic

Google's AI Search Issues - The former Google employee's comment definitely makes sense given some of their AI errors, from image generators to Google's AI search issues. Let's just say it may have caused somebody to eat pizza with glue on it. What?!

OpenAI + Scarlett Johansson - Alright, if you haven't heard, some of the recent ChatGPT-4o voices may or may not resemble Scarlett Johansson's voice. Apparently, OpenAI reached out wanting to use her voice as inspiration. Johansson did not consent, then the AI voice ‘Sky’ was released and has caused some frustrations (understandably). Now, the voice is no longer available, but they claim they didn't copy her voice.

ChatGPT-4o Major Profits - In light of the voice debacle, it hasn't hindered OpenAI's revenue as it literally doubled overnight.

Apple + OpenAI - OpenAI's profits probably won't slow down anytime soon as Apple is integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT into iOS 18, enhancing the user experience with advanced AI features. This will take Apple users' efficiency to the next level through features like summarizing notifications, giving a quick synopsis of news articles, and other helpful features such as these.

Microsoft AI + PC - Microsoft introduces AI Copilot for PCs, aiming to enhance productivity and streamline workflows by integrating AI capabilities directly into personal computers. They are planning to partner with Adobe to utilize their creative apps, as well as Davinci Resolve. The most interesting part is that the AI will be able to see your computer and give instructions and guidance where desired. For instance, if you needed to remember what a specific email said but couldn't find it, you could essentially ask your AI tool, and it will pull up the email for you.

SunoAI is Making Waves - Suno let us all know that we could expect to see version 4 very soon, but to keep us interested, they gave us access to Suno v3.5. Not only that, but they released a demo video of a new feature where you can create a song based on a sound. In the video, they are hitting a water pot, and then Suno uses that to prompt the new song. I guess it makes sense as to why they were able to raise over $100 million.

Neuralink’s First User - We officially have the very first Neuralink user. Check out the beautiful story of somebody who is paralyzed and is now able to use a computer and control it with their mind. It is such an encouraging story of how AI can benefit people in ways we have never seen in history.

Head Transplant System - A YouTube video demonstrates a new head transplant system, exploring the futuristic and controversial possibilities of transferring consciousness between bodies. This is obviously not a real thing, just a concept, but it is pretty funny to see how so many people thought this is now a real procedure.

$6M Fine - A company is facing a $6 million fine for illegal robocalls impersonating President Biden. Here's a great example of how not to use AI tools, right?

Meta & Google Talking with Hollywood - Meta and Google are in talks with Hollywood to use their content to train their video models. Warner Bros has expressed some interest, but Netflix and Disney are not on board.

MirrorGaussian - MirrorGaussian is a cutting-edge tool that can create realistic NERFs with mirrors that present accurate reflections of the environment.

GarmentDreamer - Here is yet another AI tool created to help generate clothing. The question is, does the quality of this new tool compare to the others? Honestly, even though it is impressive, this one isn't our favorite.

Semantic Gesticular - Don't be thrown off by the name, this tool can generate AI animation from audio. Trained on over 200 gestures, this is another big step towards enhancing AI's ability to generate realistic actors.

SignLLM - SignLLM is an innovative AI system designed to translate and generate sign language. This is yet another tool that is doing the work to bridge that gap and utilize AI for more inclusivity.

SynCHMR - SynCHMR is a cutting-edge AI tool that can basically create a 3D environment from a single video. Based on the input, it will generate a NERF environment, a character, and even a 3D camera.

Generative Remove in Adobe Lightroom - Adobe now gives the ability to use generative fill inside of Adobe Lightroom. I am sure that this is what many of you Lightroom users have been waiting for. The generative fill section will most likely be lower quality than your RAW photos, so make sure you keep an eye on that.

Canva’s New AI Features - Canva launched a plethora of new AI-powered tools at their Canva Create 2024. Here are some of our favorites….

  • Text-to-Graphic - Similar to text-to-image, this tool allows you to generate graphics from a simple text prompt.

  • Personalized Tone of Voice - You can basically train Canva on how to write based on your specific writing style.

  • Canva AI Video Editing - Canva's video editing feature will take the highlights from your film and specify what it is, attempting to make it an easier process.

  • Enhance Voice - They have even released their AI audio enhancement tool, which honestly does a pretty solid job!

Search for your Song by Humming - YouTube Music introduces a "hum to search" feature, allowing users to find songs by simply humming the tune. Is this the end of ‘having a song stuck in your head but you can't think of the title?’

Gigafactory of Compute - Elon Musk's xAI announces the construction of a gigafactory. Basically, this is $6 Billion Funding for a 100,000 NVIDIA GPU Megafactory. The funding came from Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal.

Leonardo's Big Updates - Leonardo AI announces the release of their Image Gen v2. We put it up to the test against our current favorite, Midjourney. Honestly, Leonardo produced some images that were better than Midjourney's generations. They also released a character consistency feature recently.

Dave Clark Post Cannes - Our good friend Dave Clark shared insights and updates from the Cannes Film Festival, highlighting key trends and innovations in the film industry. We had a blast with Dave at Cannes and could not be more excited for the future of filmmaking and AI tools.

StreamV2V - This tool isn't great yet, honestly, but it gives you the ability to faceswap in real-time. I just imagine Zoom meetings where people are using this tool to make it look like they are wearing a dinosaur head.

Icons 8 Ethically Trained and Commercially Usable - Icons 8 released their ethically trained and commercially usable AI models, striving to emphasize responsible AI development and ethical considerations in AI.

3D Capture - It seems like some of these NERFs may soon allow us to have some type of X-Ray vision. Bilawal shared a brilliant example showing how 'you can capture critical infrastructure, and overlay it at real-world locations in the future - allowing you to 'see' through concrete for future maintenance and construction.'

Learn the Latest AI Filmmaking Techniques - Our June session of our courses starts on Wednesday. We cannot wait for this session! Learn alongside industry executives and professional artists.

AI Film Trailer Competition - This Thursday is the last day to submit your project for the AI Film Trailer competition. This is your chance to win an Apple Vision Pro and have your film seen by Hollywood executives and some of the biggest names in AI filmmaking.
