The Best AI Video Generators of 2025

In this article and video, I'll determine the best AI video generator for AI filmmakers in 2025.

Choosing which video generator to use is a big decision for AI filmmakers. Luckily, we ranked all the best ones for you.

With the recent release of SORA and Google’s beta version of VEO 2, everyone is wondering which video generators can create the highest quality content.

So how did we rank them?

And what are the special features of each one?

Each video generator was graded on these details, from 1-10.

  1. Realism

  2. Character and Camera Physics

  3. Workflow and Ease of Use

The Best AI Video Generator for Filmmakers in 2025

Below is an analysis of 7 different AI Video Generators. Our goal is to determine the best. Here we go!

1. Veo 2 (Google DeepMind)

The quality we’ve seen from Veo 2 is incredible! This tool is not publicly available yet, but we’re sharing early access with you.

Veo is incredibly realistic, but there’s a catch!

There is no way to upload an image of your own into Veo yet, which would definitely make it challenging to use for AI filmmaking.

Instead, Veo has text-to-image-to-video capabilities, meaning you’ll be able to prompt an image from text, and then add motion to that image in a singular workflow.

In terms of realism and physics, Veo is next-level! We’re blown away. This is going to be one of the top video generators for AI film, once it’s available publicly.

Realism: 10/10

Character and Camera Physics: 10/10

Workflow and Ease of Use: 3/10

Total Score: 23/30

2. SORA (Open AI)

SORA was released at the end of 2024 after a ton of anticipation. You can see plenty of amazing examples online and on OpenAI’s website.

One interesting thing about SORA is its intense creativity. Sometimes, it will add camera movements or cut to another scene you didn’t even prompt.

For AI filmmaking, it’s useful because you can upload images and keyframe clips. If you want to learn more, feel free to check out this SORA Cinematic Guide we created.

To use SORA, you’ll need a ChatGPT subscription.

The cheaper, Plus version ($20/month) will let you generate 2 videos at a time, up to 720P resolution with 5 second durations.

The Pro version ($200/month) lets you create 4 videos at a time, up to 20 seconds per clip at 1080P.

But here’s the weirdest part: only the Pro version will let you upload images of people. So… for AI filmmakers that’s definitely a setback.

Overall, SORA is very realistic but also difficult to control. Its tendency to add unnecessary elements and cuts makes it entertaining for interesting short clips, but it’s not the easiest to use if you’re looking for directorial control.

Realism: 8/10

Character and Camera Physics: 4/10

Workflow and Ease of Use: 5/10

Total Score: 17/30

3. Runway Gen-3 Alpha

Runway is super popular with AI filmmakers and generative video is just one feature on the platform. You can use Runway for video-to-video, generative extend, lip syncing, inpainting and more.

Gen-3 Alpha is their best video model, letting you create clips up to 10 seconds long with 1080P resolution (but you can upscale to 4K inside the platform too!)

So how does it hold up?

We love Runway, but there are a lot of fuzzy areas in the final results you can see below. Audiences probably wouldn’t be too forgiving about the changes in resolution, unusual physics and the weird “gliding” motion for some of the characters.

The Runway Unlimited tier is $76, and it’s exactly what it sounds like - unlimited! Definitely a better deal than SORA for all the features you can access. All of the cheaper tiers have limited credits.

We’re sad to say Runway is falling a bit behind, when it comes to quality!

Realism: 5/10

Character and Camera Physics: 5/10

Workflow and Ease of Use: 8/10

Total: 18/30

4. Hailuo (Minimax)

Hailuo is a China-based video generator capable of producing very realistic human faces, reactions and movements.

You can generate up to 3 clips at a time at 1080P and remove watermarks with the Standard plan for $9.99 and a limited number of credits. The Unlimited tier is $94.99 per month.

Overall movements with Minimax are a bit faster and realistic than the slow-motion look that Runway and Luma sometimes have. The physics are fairly accurate, but the overall resolution needs upscaling.

We notice that Minimax adds speaking and talking, even when you don’t prompt for it.

Realism: 7/10

Character and Camera Physics: 6/10

Workflow and Ease of Use: 8/10

Total: 21/30

5. Haiper 2.0

Haiper is a fast and easy video generator, but it’s not very realistic and the physics are confusing. Up against the other tools, it just doesn’t hold up.

Realism: 1/10

Character and Camera Physics: 2/10

Workflow and Ease of Use: 2/10

Total: 5/30

6. Kling 1.6 Pro

Like Hailuo, Kling is a China-based video generator. It offers several very helpful features for AI filmmakers, including character training, negative prompting, and camera controls.

There is no unlimited tier, but the Premier subscription for $28 per month gets you 8000 credits or about 260 video generations.

AI filmmakers stand by Kling because of how realistic it is - and we totally agree!

Realism: 8/10

Character and Camera Physics: 8/10

Workflow and Ease of Use: 8/10

Total: 24/30

7. Luma Labs (Dream Machine)

Luma Labs Dream Machine was a groundbreaking video generator when it launched, but unfortunately it’s falling behind right now. It was the first model to add “keyframes”.

But sadly, the results look very smoothed-over and the physics aren’t accurate.

So, we couldn’t give it a very good score!

Realism: 2/10

Character and Camera Physics: 2/10

Workflow and Ease of Use: 5/10

Total: 9/30
