GPT Image 2 Review: Best AI Image Generator Yet?
In this article, we will take a deep dive and give an honest review of OpenAI’s GPT Image 2.
OpenAI’s latest image generator is GPT image 2, and it seems to be the best currently available to the public.
OpenAI’s GPT Image 2 may be the strongest AI image model currently available. That’s a bold claim, but after putting it through the wringer, cinematic stills, graphic design, character swaps, and complex diagrams—it might actually be true.
Here is everything you need to know about GPT Image 2 and how it’s going to change your creative workflow.

GPT Image 2 Review: Is This the Best AI Image Generator Yet?
Below is a breakdown where we take a look at GPT Image 2’s strengths and weaknesses!
1. Text Rendering Is Shockingly Good
Whether you are making menus, movie posters, charts, or comics, GPT Image 2 handles text better than almost any model I’ve tested. This matters more than people realize and it saves hours of cleanup in Photoshop.

In the example above, you can see that GPT Image 2 greatly outperforms in the accuracy of text, as well as compositing of the text into the image.
2. Character Consistency Is Excellent
Character swaps and likeness preservation were among the best I’ve seen, especially when you pair them with reference images. For AI storytelling, this is the holy grail.

In the example above, neither necessarily performs in an incredible way. Both have issues, but if we had to choose one then we would say GPT Image 2 wins.
3. Style References Actually Work
Uploading style references dramatically improved our outputs.
From color grading and lighting to the overall mood and composition, it felt much closer to real creative direction than just playing "prompt roulette."

Overall, we would say that GPT image 2 won this test primarily due to its ability to keep the Reference character consistent to the original image.
4. Creative Problem Solving
This is the model's secret weapon. Need a product diagram? A live-data graphic? A complex movie poster?

It solves weird creative problems that traditional image models usually stumble over.
Where It Struggles
It isn’t perfect, and there are a few things you need to watch out for.
Photorealism: Cinematic prompts without style references can sometimes feel a bit like concept art—beautiful, but not always 100% photoreal.
Artifacts: Backgrounds can occasionally artifact, especially in some of the more complex composited reference tests.
The Price Tag: This is the big one. At high-quality settings, you're looking at roughly $1.40 per image. That adds up fast if you're iterating.
Speed: It’s slower than many alternatives. Because you often generate one image at a time, the exploration phase can feel a bit sluggish compared to tools built for rapid iteration.
Is GPT Image 2 the Best?
For pure image intelligence? Yes. I believe GPT Image 2 is currently the best image generator available. It has the best prompt adherence, the best character consistency, and the best creative problem-solving capabilities.
But... will it be my everyday workhorse? Maybe not. Nano Banana is still faster and significantly cheaper, and when you're in the middle of a project, speed matters.
