Happy Horse 1.0 vs Seedance 2.0 | VFX Effects

Happy Horse 1.0 vs Seedance 2.0

In this article, we are going to compare Seedance 2.0 and Happy Horse 1.0 to see which AI Video model does the best with Sci-fi VFX shots.

We wanted to see how the two leading AI video generators performed when compared against each other, specifically in VFX effects.

We ran 5 tests once per model, and took the first generation from each.

Here are the different VFX effect tests we ran:

  1. Lightning Dissolve

  2. Lightning Strike Levitation

  3. Lightning Dash Teleportation

  4. Lightning Object Manipulation

  5. Lightning Portal Exit

TLDR: Considering all the hype around Happy Horse 1.0, it’s actually surprising that Seedance 2.0 takes the lead across all of these tests.

Below are the 5 tests we ran using Happy Horse 1.0 and Seedance 2.0 to see which tool can prompt better VFX effects.

Each test uses multiple shots (4-5 shots each), but we took the first option from each generation.

All of the video tests use the same starting image shown below.

Below are the tests we ran comparing VFX shots and techniques between Happy Horse and Seedance 2.0.

Lets hop in!

Happy Horse vs Seedance Test #1: Lightning Dissolve

First up, we wanted to start with an effect that shows a surge of electrical arcs overtaking the subject’s body, causing it to fade out unevenly until it fully disappears.

Seedance 2.0

Happy Horse 1.0

Conclusion: While both models followed the prompt fairly well, Seedance performed better overall, with electrical currents that felt more realistic and integrated into the scene.

In comparison, Happy Horse’s currently looks more synthetic, closer to a 2D animation overlay than something that belongs in live action.

Happy Horse vs Seedance Test #2: Levitation

Next, we tested is a VFX effect that is a high-energy force (lightning) overtaking the body, suspending it, and then releasing it back into physical reality.

Seedance 2.0

Happy Horse 1.0

Conclusion: Seedance 2.0 definitely beats Happy Horse 1.0 here.

It actually shows the lightning lifting her into the air with clear distance from the ground, and the whole effect feels believable like the bolt is really driving the motion.

Happy Horse barely gets her off the ground, and the lightning feels flat and kind of 2D, like it’s just layered on instead of part of the scene.

Happy Horse vs Seedance Test #3: Teleportation

Next, we tested a VFX effect that is a lightning-driven dash where the subject moves in sharp, teleport-like jumps across the frame, connected by brief streaks of electricity.

Seedance 2.0

Happy Horse 1.0

Conclusion: Seedance did noticeably better here, too. It actually nails the appear-and-disappear motion, with the subject jumping across the frame in those teleport-like bursts connected by lightning.

Happy Horse mostly just shows her running with some lightning on top, without that disappearing effect, and the lightning still feels flat.

Happy Horse vs Seedance Test #4: Manipulation

Next, we tested a VFX effect that uses lightning to lift and control rocks before launching them toward the camera in a fast, aggressive burst.

Seedance 2.0

Happy Horse 1.0

Conclusion: Seedance wins again. The whole effect just looks more believable overall.

Happy Horse feels a lot stiffer in comparison.

Happy Horse vs Seedance Test #5: Portal Exit

The last shot we tested is a VFX effect that uses crackling lightning to form a circular portal, allowing the subject to step through before it collapses and disappears.

Seedance 2.0

Happy Horse 1.0

Conclusion: Seedance definitely performs better here overall. The effect feels much more believable, especially once the portal fully forms and she steps through it.

In comparison, Happy Horse feels much simpler. There’s no clear circle being drawn; the portal just appears, and while she does disappear with it, the effect looks thin and not very convincing.

Seedance 2.0 vs Happy Horse 1.0 | AI VFX Conclusion

Overall, Seedance outperforms Happy Horse by quite a bit when it comes to VFX.

The biggest difference shows up in the lightning effects, where Seedance produces currents that feel much more realistic right from the start.

Happy Horse 1.0

Seedance 2.0

With Happy Horse, it usually follows the multi-shot prompt and generates the intended effect, but the results often feel flat or not as impactful.

The effect is there, but it doesn’t land the same way as Seedance.

Happy Horse 1.0

Seedance 2.0

Another big difference is video quality.

Happy Horse tends to lose detail over time, becoming more smoothed out and slightly game-like, while Seedance preserves the original image much better.
