How to Use AI for Lip Syncing | 3 Easy Techniques

In this article and video tutorial, I will show you how to use AI for lip syncing.

We’ve been putting in the work to test and define the best AI lip sync tools available today. Honestly, there are a lot of bad options out there, but we were still pleasantly surprised by what’s possible right now.

AI lip sync technology still has a lot of room to grow, but there are already some clever workflows that make it easier than ever to create realistic lip sync videos.

In this article and video, I’ll share three of my favorite approaches whenever you are using ai for lipsyncing, that deliver solid, believable results.

Let’s get started.

How to Use AI for Lip Syncing | Video Tutorial

Below is a tutorial showing my 3 favorite techniques for using AI to lip-sync videos.

The Ultimate Guide for Using AI for Lip Syncing | 3 Easy Techniques

Below are my favorite 3 workflows to use AI to create lip sync videos. Enjoy!

AI Lip Sync Technique #1: Prompt to Lip Sync

This method doesn’t have too many options, as most AI video generators do not generate lip-sync videos solely from text prompts. At the moment, the only options for this are Kling and Veo 3, but I would recommend using Veo 3.

You can simply upload an external image and prompt exactly what you want your character to say.

Often, the Veo 3 quality isn’t ideal, so we typically recommend running your output through a tool like Topaz Video Upscaler.

The biggest downside of this method is that there is no way to prompt for consistent voices across generations, so it would be difficult to use a method like this for a professional project.

AI Lip Sync Technique #2: Audio-Driven Lip Sync

The next method I would recommend for your AI lip sync is where you start with an image and an audio clip and generate a lip sync video from those assets inside of Heygen.

Use AI to generate your audio (our favorite tool is ElevenLabs), then generate an image where the face is fully visible.

After that, you can head on over to Heygen and upload your assets inside the ‘Photo to Video’ section.

One tip a lot of people do not know is that you can prompt for specific actions for your video inside of this feature in Heygen, and it does pretty well at adhering to the prompt.

It’s not uncommon that generations from Heygen typically skip frames or have some frame rate wonkiness, so I always recommend using Topaz Video for some frame interpolation.

AI Lip Sync Technique #3: Performance Transfer

Runway Act Two is a spectacular tool for generating some strong lip-syncing results. As expected, it gives you more control over the performance as well.

The things you need to use this method are a video of you or some other talent talking and facing the camera in a well-lit environment (totally okay to record this on your phone), and you also need a target video that you want to lip sync.

The target videos need to have the person’s face visible the whole time, or Runway won’t process it, unfortunately.

The results of using Runway Act Two aren’t the best, but it could be a solid option with some additional prompting.

Bonus Technique: AI Lip Dubbing

If you are looking for the best AI tools for lip dubbing, then we highly recommend checking out Heygen. They are a phenomenal tool with some impressive results.

It’s basically as simple as dragging and dropping your video.

This typically works best whenever you are looking to dub a talking head video where the talent is facing the camera and the mouth is fully visible the entirety of the video.
